Jesus said: “‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.’ And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them.” (Mark 10.14-16)
to St. John United Church of Christ. This page has been created to help parents and guardians of children find their way into the life of St. John Church and welcome all children as full participants in this faith community.
SUNDAY MORNING CLASSES
Infants and toddlers may go directly to the nursery (room 103). Parents/guardians are asked to sign in and sign out.
The nursery does not always have a staffed attendant and may require parents/guardians of children in the nursery to remain with their child/ren.
Everyone gathers in the worship room (Sanctuary) for the worship service. Following the welcome on the second, third and fourth Sundays of the month children are dismissed for Kids Connection, a multi-age level interactive class for grades 1 through 5 in room 202 on the second floor. On the first and fifth Sundays of the month children remain in the worship service which includes a special time for children.
Classes are designed to help each child learn about God’s love and the lessons of Jesus in the Bible, and to begin age appropriate spiritual and faith formation.
Children of all ages are always welcome to remain in the worship service with their parents/guardians if they feel more comfortable there. However, in order to make worship enjoyable and meaningful for all we ask that parents/guardians help their child/ren participate in the service and prepare them to remain for the entire worship experience.
WAYS TO HELP CHILDREN PARTICIPATE IN WORSHIP
• Prior to worship assist your child to the restroom located next to the nursery (room 103).
• Be sure you pick up an activities bag from an usher when you enter the Sanctuary.
• Sit close to the front so your child may see what is happening.
• Come early to get settled and find the Hymnal (black book) and the Bible (red book).
• Have your child help you find the hymn and scripture pages.
• Invite your child to sing and read along with you.
• Come forward with your child for the special time for children.
• Help your child return the activities bag at the end of worship.
