2021 Special Congregational Meeting

Welcome to the 2021 Special Congregational Meeting!  This year’s meeting will be held virtually in order to accomplish our church’s business safely.  A letter of explanation has been sent out to all members.  Basically, there are three steps to this process:

Ginnie Kelley announces SLC nominations

2021 Strategic Leadership Council NominationS

The members of the 2021 nominating committee, Carol Griffith, Ginnie Kelley and Sue Jelinek are proud to present the 2021 nominees for the Strategic Leadership Council.

President – Ginnie Kelley
President Elect – Tim Smith
Secretary – Cherie Draper
Member at Large – Steve Phillips

Melissa Stephens will be staying for her 2nd year as Treasurer.
Carol Griffith has agreed to serve as Member at Large for another year to fill in for Ginnie Kelley.  Carol has served as Member at Large for the last 2 1/2 years.

The new SLC will serve from January 1st to December 31st.

*2021 Strategic Leadership Council Nomination Bios

Ginnie Kelley has been a member of St. John Church for over 15 years. A proud parent and grandparent. Working in a call center for computer repair and servicing. Active in many capacities at St. John, serving currently on the Strategic Leadership Council as a member at large, Illuminations youth group as an adult helper, a counter for the offerings and a member of the Bible study group. She is willing to work for the future of St. John Church.
Cherie Draper is a wife of 30 years to Jeff Draper and mother to four. Lost Seattle transplant, military spouse, homeschool teacher, and aspirational minimalist. Equality, environmentally, and spiritually minded.
Tim L. Smith has been a covenant member of St. John UCC since 2009 and has held a variety of council positions and offices through the years, as well as multiple committees.   He also served in a similar capacity at various churches:  Brighthelm United Reformed Church, Brighton, England; Walnut Hills Christian Church, Cincinnati; First Congregational Church, Natick, MA; First Congregational Church, Haworth, NJ.  Tim also served as the UCC Ohio Conference Moderator.

Tim is currently a Vice-President and Technical Sales Consultant for U.S. Bank’s Corporate Payments Systems division.  Previously his career included stops at American Express, CAM Data Systems, MicroStrategies, Victory Shirt Company, and Saks Fifth Avenue.   Tim looks forward to serving our congregation, but most of all looks forward to the time he can once again greet Sunday morning worshippers at the Fairfield Avenue entrance.

Steve Phillips has been a member of St. John UCC for 19 years, during which he has served on the SLC, held the position of church Financial Secretary, sung in the chancel choir, played in the bell choir since its inception, played piano and organ during worship services, chaired the Music on the Avenue recital series in the church for many years, and helped manage church Rummage Sales.  He moved to Cincinnati from Rochester, NY in 1989 to complete a Master’s Degree in Piano Accompanying from the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati.  He worked for many years as a Client Service Manager of 401(k) retirement plans for mid-sized American companies for Fidelity Investments before he took an early retirement in 2014.
